Fort Hood GI war resister Mark Wilkerson will be present to speak about his court martial which is scheduled to take place the following day at Fort Hood . Mark went AWOL from the Army after he was denied conscientious objector status. Mark had already completed one tour in Iraq during which he came to the realization that he was morally opposed to war in any form. Mark remained in hiding for a year and a half before turning himself in to his unit at Fort Hood on August 31, 2006. Mark has pled guilty to missing troop movement and desertion. Also present to speak will be National Iraq Veterans Against the War Executive Director Kelly Dougherty along with Texas area IVAW members. Many will recognize Kelly as one of the GI’s that appeared in the critically acclaimed documentary “Ground Truth”. There will be a Q&A period and music to finish out the night.

There will be a rally for Mark outside of the East Gate of Fort Hood at 7:30AM on the morning of February 22, 2007. We hope to show our support of Mark to all those arriving for the hearing.
