Lobby Day, on Wednesday, February 28th, brings together hundreds of pro-choice volunteers from all over Texas. You will meet your legislators (or members of their staff) face-to-face at the Capitol, and share Planned Parenthood’s legislative priorities with them. This is a day when Planned Parenthood supporters tell our elected officials about the vital health care services that
our clinics provide, as well as other issues important to Texas families.
No background or experience is required! The only requirements are that you (1) attend one of the training sessions listed below; (2) participate all day in Lobby Day on February 28th; and (3) strongly support funding for family planning, and a Prevention First bill that would help reduce unintended pregnancies.
Tentative Schedule for Wednesday, February 28th (final schedule TBD):
9:00 a.m. Participants convene at a convenient spot in Austin (location TBA) to park their cars, board a bus, and pick up participant packets. We’ll provide coffee and bagels.
10:30 a.m. Arrive at the Austin Convention Center for a kick-off briefing with hundreds of other Lobby Day participants from across Texas, led by motivating pro-choice speakers!
11:30 a.m. Depart for the Capitol. Lunch on your own.
1:00 p.m. Visits with legislators and their staff throughout the afternoon.
4:00 p.m. Option one: board bus to return to your car.
5:00 p.m. Option two: participate in a wrap-up rally at the capitol; then board bus to return to your car.
Planned Parenthood Lobby Day Training Dates:
Saturday, February 24th, 9:30 a.m. – Noon, location in Austin TBA
Monday, February 26th, 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., location in Austin TBA
The training will include:
A crash course on the Texas Legislature
An overview of the issues and talking points, with tips on how to field tough questions
Hands-on practice drills
Food and drinks, of course
