Celebrate John Henry Faulk’s Birthday & the First Amendment August 21 in Zilker Park with ice cream & cake and a free screening of a new documentary: “John Henry Faulk: In His Own Words,” produced by Pam Thompson.
Austin’s finest humorist, storyteller, and entertainer, who was blacklisted during the dark period of the 1950s and spent the rest of his life advocating for free speech and the First Amendment. Austin’s Central Library was named after John Henry Faulk in 1994.
Starting at 6:30pm, a recreation of the Lounging Philosophers as Council Member Lee Leffingwell, Jim Harrington, and Bill Bunch as they emulate a conversation on the First Amendment among John Henry Faulk’s mentors: Roy Bedichek, J Frank Dobie, and Walter Prescott Webb (at the Philosophers’ Rock by the entrance to Barton Springs).
