Opposition to Proposed Nuclear Plants in Texas, a presentation and discussion by Nuclear Free Texas

NRG, a company that rececently was on the verge of bankruptcy, has proposed to add two nuclear reactors to the South Texas Nuclear Project site in Matagorda County, near Bay City, Texas. These plants came in 600% over budget and eight years late last time. In 2003 there was a leak of radioactive material at one of the two existing units. Despite industry claims to the contrary, nuclear plants pose risks from accidents, radioactive exposure, storage of wastes, and the ultimate nightmare – a meltdown.
