The two-day PeaceJam youth conference, which always features the personal appearance of a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, will be held March 29-30, 2008 on the University of Houston campus.
Featured will be Betty Williams, who was awarded the 1976 prize for her work towards ending the violence in Northern Ireland.
The PeaceJam conference is open to all youth ages 14-19 interested in learning about peace and nonviolence and the root causes of violence and oppression. To participate in the conference, youth and an adult sponsor can form a PeaceJam club or incorporate PeaceJam into an existing club. PeaceJam is open to schools, community organizations, faith-based youth groups, and even a group of neighborhood friends. Space is limited at the training, and there is a small fee associated. 9:00 a.m.–3 p.m. in Room 231 of the Graduate College of Social Work at UH.
