Subject: IRAQ AFTER 5 YEARS: Speaker: Charlie Jackson, Founder of Texans for Peace A presentation and discussion on the issues and impacts of five years of war and occupation in Iraq, and current facts on the ground. Learn about the people of Iraq, U.S. soldiers, the refugee crisis and latest efforts to rebuild the economic and political infrastructure. The presentation will include images and information about Iraq, its people and society, from 2002 to the present.
Mr. Jackson has visited Iraq three times in the past five years as part of the Christian Peacemaker Teams delegations. He has gained an intimate knowledge of the economic, political, and social situation as he traveled widely throughout the country. In 2004, he was lead author of the Baghdad Economic Development (BED) Project at the University of Texas, prepared for the U.S. Army 1st Calvary Division. He also helped found the Womens Business Center of Baghdad (WBCB), a project to assist women business owners and professionals of Iraq, and Charlie is currently actively involved with the ongoing refugee crisis.

Background info: The Public Affairs Forum is held at 11:30 AM on most Sundays in Howson Hall at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Austin, which sponsors the event. The Church is located at 4700 Grover in Austin, Texas.
Forums last for one hour and the public is invited to attend. Admission is free.
Forums include lectures by prominent speakers on a wide variety of topics – social equity, politics, environmental issues, science, community action initiatives, and others. Most forum events allow time for questions of the speaker from the audience, and are videotaped, edited and are broadcast on PACT TV Cable Channel 10 at 6 PM on Sundays. DVD videos of the Forums are available through the church bookstore. Expect up to a few weeks turn around for DVD copies.
