Justice for Darfur? [7-9pm-Garrison Hall 0.102] Sara Darehshori, a senior counsel with Human Rights Watch, will discuss efforts to bring perpetrators of genocide to justice and the balance between accountability and amnesty.
Tuesday, April 8: Fairness Fair [11am to 2pm- Gregory Plaza] Variety of student organizations centered on human rights and social justice issues tabling.
Gender and Genocide: [5-7pm- Calhoun 100] Professor Adam Jones of the University of British Columbia Okanagan and founder of Gendercide Watch joins UT professors in a panel concerning the role of gender in genocide.
Wednesday, April 9th: Painting for Peace [11am- 2pm-Gregory Plaza] Student participation in human rights related art displays. Paint a tent emulating refugee camps for fundraising and awareness. S.O.S Sudan: send a message in a painted bottle to a Texas legislator.
Understanding Genocide Through the Arts [7-9pm- UTC 4.124] Professor Erik Ehn, dean of theater at CalArts, will speak about his play on the Rwandan genocide, and the arts as a tool for activism.
Thursday, April 10th: Day of Action [11am to 2pm-West Mall Rally Location] Help with the Genocide Intervention Network’s goal of acquiring 24 helicopters for humanitarian aid.
Keynote Address: John Prendergast [7-9pm UTC 2.102A] Prendergast co-authored Not on Our Watch with Don Cheadle. He is also co-chair of the ENOUGH Project, and former Director of African Affairs at the National Security Council, and Special Advisor at the Department of State.
