Save Our Youth (SOY), a project of Red Salmon Arts, presents Truth of Mind: Youth Poetry Reading featuring Johnston High School student writers: Emanuel Alejo-Mendez, Mariama Konneh, Lauren Montoya, Christian Morgan, Joseph Abel Posada, and Ana Karen Vargas. The reading will also include local poet/writers Marcos Flores, Carolle Metellus, and Johnston High School 2006-2007 graduate and SOY poet, Saray Rosales.

This spring, SOY conducted a two month intensive writing clinic with Johnston High School students, under the direction & committed support of Johnston English teacher Camille DePrang. Facilitated by Erika Gonzalez, Emmet Campos, & Rene Valdez, SOY engaged the students with relevant issues affecting their communities and inspired them draw from their own life-stories to write poems or “medicine stories” on subjects such as school closure, violence, racism, family, and gentrification. Join us to honor & celebrate the young voices of the East Austin!
