Houston: Stop the Pipeline to Prison

CDF’s Cradle to Prison Pipeline® Campaign: Texas follow-up forum – Thursday, November 20

The Children’s Defense Fund’s Cradle to Prison Pipeline® Campaign is a national call to action to stop the funneling of tens of thousands of youth into life paths that lead to arrest, conviction, incarceration, and even death. Last March, CDF-Texas and the Center for Children, Law and Policy at the UH Law Center brought together more than 700 advocates from across the state to identify effective strategies for dismantling the Pipeline.

Over the past six months, CDF has convened focused workgroups to inform community solutions and develop policy recommendations for each of the following intersections of the Pipeline: Early Childhood Education; Educational, Social and Emotional Youth Development; Health and Mental Health Care; Child Abuse Prevention and Protection; the Juvenile Justice System; and Child Poverty.

At this follow-up forum CDF will present the outcomes of each workgroup and plan the necessary next steps to nurture and protect the lives of children and youth during the 2009 Texas legislative session. The Forum is presented in partnership with One Voice and Systems of Hope. There is no registration fee to attend this event, but space is limited. 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at The Power Center , 12401 S. Post Oak Rd.
