Today has been designated as the National Day of Action for Gaza, and more protests are occuring nationwide. At the end of our protest yesterday, I asked if people were willing to stand up again for Gaza today. The answer was a resounding YES! And so we’re doing it again as Israel’s barbaric attacks against the population of Gaza have not stopped. The death toll has risen to 380 now. And although a few trucks of humanitarian were reportedly allowed in, Gaza is still effectively under a cruel siege and experiencing shortages of many vital necessities. A boat chartered by the Free Gaza Movement, carrying doctors and urgently needed medical supplies, was attacked by the Israeli Navy and forced to turn back.
Date: Tuesday, December 30th
Time: 5:00 – 6:00 pm
Where: State Capitol, 11th & Congress, Austin
As it gets darker towards the end, we will have a candlelight vigil.
Yesterday’s protest shows that many in Austin oppose such atrocities; coming out again today will help confirm that the people of Austin stand against this. We would also like to get 1,000 signatures on petition that we will deliver to our representatives at the Capitol (we have approx. 300 so far, from today’s protest).
Please join us and/or engage in other actions such as calling your representatives and leaving a brief message that you denounce Israel’s crimes against the people, and demand that the U.S. government stop facilitating and supporting this with our tax dollars. And if you wish to donate to a worthy cause, two recipients that I recommend would be the Free Gaza Movement and United Palestinian Appeal.
Hope to see you in the streets this afternoon, y’all. Gaza needs you. Its people need all of us to stand up for them. And we will have “Free Palestine” stickers for everyone!
Solidarity,
