Austin Permanent Peace Protest: Demonstration against the fraudulent election results in Iran, 2:00pm, 6th and Lamar (in front of Waterloo Records) TODAY, Sunday, June 14, 2009, 11:03 AM
According to studies done by analysts inside and outside Iran, the results of the June 12th election were fabricated. Go to professor Juan Cole’s website for further info.
Some of us have been receiving emails and calls from inside Iran, asking us to start making noise in the West. The universities have been closed down, party leaders have been detained or are under house arrest. Cell phones have been cut off and the Internet has been slowed down enough so as to become useless for facebook and twitter usage. There is fighting in the streets and scenes that are reminiscent of the 1979 revolution. The event is being called the coup d’etat of 22 Khordad (June 12th). The event is being called a soft-coup d’etat and the scenes are reminiscent of the days of the 1979 revolution. Moussavi has asked for a non-violent response from the people (some protesters were throwing stones), permits for massive demonstrations across the country for Tuesday from the ministry of interior and he’s also put in a request that the last election be considered null and void. Him and Karroubi the other reformist candidate are promising to be relentless and pursue this until they get some answers. For those who know Farsi Moussavi’s official website is http://ghalamnews.org is the place to go. And although apparently access to BBC and VOA is shut down in Iran, they seem to be acting as one of many information liaisons for the time being, so English language updates can be found there.
What we can do here is show our solidarity and honor for what the protesters in Iran have asked us to do in order to put even further pressure on this shameless government. We need your physical presence TODAY at 2:00 at 6th and Lamar for a protest. All efforts are being made to get the news crews out for the protest so we need a big crowd.
Forward this as widely as you can.
We are standing as one. No political factions! No flags! TELL YOUR FRIENDS and REPOST EXACTLY.
