For those of you who can make it to Austin, please consider joining our press conference on the plaza in front of the Federal Building (300 East 8th Street) at 10, the morning of November 20th, the 20th anniversary date of the UN’s Rights of the Child.
Right after, we will present our petition, prepared with the help of Amnesty International, to Senator Hutchison and Congressman Doggett, whose offices are inside said Federal Building, then over to Senator Cornyn’s office at 221 West 6th Street) to do the same. The reason for Doggett is because Congressman John Lewis (D-GA) introduced bill 416, now in committee, which advocates addressing many human rights issues, including the Senate’s ratification of Rights of the Child.
On Saturday, November 21, at the south steps of the capitol, Rights of the Child USA will hold a rally, assembling at noon, with speeches starting at 1. Necessary sponsorship of this rally was handled by State Representative Eddie Rodriquez (D-HD 51). A staffer from John Sharp’s office will meet us there to accept another copy of the petition, thoughtfully saving us
the walk to their campaign headquarters up at 2801 Guadalupe, so that after the rally, all we have yet to do is head to Bill White’s campaign headquarters in the Omni Building at 7th & Brazos. No doubt all of you know Sharp and White are Democratic Party contenders for Hutchison’s seat, once she removes herself to run for Texas Governor. ROC USA is a non-partisan approach toward ultimate resolution.
