X-Mas Tiendita @ Resistencia

12pm – 6pm Saturday December 19, 2009, Resistencia Bookstore, 1801-A South First St.

Welcome to our yearly X-MAS TIENDITA: where you will find unique holiday gift items: Artesania, Jewelry, Tarjetas, Posters, Literature, Musica, y Liberacion! Join us as we congregate/celebrate one last time before the new year!

**Also, come support la familia Vargas by picking up some of their fresh tamales by the dozen: ** Traditional & Vegetarian Tamales.

This year we are highlighting the beautiful handcrafted indigenous artwork by Julia Nava: Ojos de Dios/God’s Eyes

The Ojo de Dios, or God’s Eye, is a complex weaving made across two or more sticks. They originate from the Huichol tribe in the Sierra Madre mountains in Mexico. The Huichol call their God’s eyes Sikuli, which means “the power to see and understand things unknown.” (Resistencia Bkstr. is the only place in Austin where you can find Ojos de Dios by Julia Nava.)

This gathering is yet another humble offering in memory of our elder raulrsalinas who founded this Resistencia tradition of showcasing local and regional arts and crafts at Resistencia Bookstore’s X-MAS TIENDITA.

Resistencia Bookstore is a neighborhood center for aspiring writers, providing quality literature to Austin communities since 1983.
