Tuesday, March 30, 7:00 PM, Monkeywrench Books, 110 E. North Loop Blvd.
Join a delicious tamale dinner fundraiser, including a report from the Coalition of Immokalee Workers’ “Modern-Day Slavery Museum” tour and a preview of the upcoming Farmworker Freedom March in Florida. The event includes a vegetarian tamale dinner option available via RSVP for a sliding scale cost of $7-$15. Proceeds will help defray travel costs for the fifteen Austinites joining the three-day march in Florida. From April 16-18, farmworkers from Immokalee and their allies will take the movement to eradicate slavery to the streets on a three-day march from Tampa to Lakeland, Florida, home of Publix’s corporate headquarters. We will march to call on Publix to support three fundamental “Farmworker Freedoms”: freedom from forced labor, freedom from abuse, and freedom from poverty and degradation.
