Wow! No Paul Ray! No Larry Monroe! It's official there is no pulse in the corpse called KUT. We have been WAY-LAID! We have been SHANGHIDE! And I am outraged. No, I am PIG BITING MAD!.

All of 2009 I have been traveling. I basically, just got back to Austin and flipped on KUT feverishly looking for Paul Ray's program. Zip! Nada! Nothing! I did a Google search and find out that Paul and Larry's programs had been eviscerated.

I am currently listening to Undercurrents their new program on KUT and it is 1 am in the morning. What drivel, what crap! And no playlist if you just might happen to like what they are playing. You got to go to Facebook. Like I want to be a member of Facebook.

Being a music fan and collector of music both Larry and Ray's program helped me fill out the gaps in my collection and my repetoire by listening to their programs.

Thirty years I have been listening to KUT as a loyal supporter. It was one of the crown jewels of Austin like Barton Springs.

Not another dime will I give to KUT. I hope they choke on this new failed experiment by the traitors who are currently running KUT.

I used to go to IHOP with my family, but now we may want to keep in mind that the company has been exposed for food safety issues and animal cruelty in its supply chain. For more details, please check out www.humanesociety.org/ihop.

I just wanted to let you know what's going on at IHOP. I truly appreciate your time.

Sincerely,

With 90% of the global wealth reportedly in the hands of 10% of the populus, it may be time for some healthy dose of socialism....TO BE IMPLEMENTED BY THE CONSERVATIVES!!!! Because if you give the socialists (and yes, Obama is a very dangerous left-leaning socialist who will ruin the country) free reign, there will be no end to their hands in your pockets until they're totally empty.
We should work on a fair and just society where everybody has a job, can afford a roof, sufficient food, clothing, medical care, excellent schooling and look after the eldery where needed.
People should not have to live in constant worry how to afford the next day.
And if that means that society, by implementing some socialism, will be divided instead of 90/10 into 75/25, so be it. The rich, I mean the stinking rich, can afford it. Nobody needs more than a few million to live a good life. The rest is greed.
I have lived in Europe and now I live in Canada and it's socialism galore everywhere. The living is always marginal because all those socialist government make sure that whatever they figure is excess, goes straight into their troughs. They will pluck you like fowl.

KUT is irresponsibly straying from the mission of public radio and gearing itself to become the "Walmart of public radio". I wrote the following email to KUT management. I wanted to focus on Paul Ray, because I always listen to his show, but I like Monroe as well.

Dear KUT Station Management:

I am extremely disappointed to hear that KUT is now taking actions to cut Paul Ray's shows.

According to the Austin Chronicle, the station wants a "broader listener base with more continuity between day and evening programs." To me, this is a marketing strategy more appropriate to Walmart, and does not fit in with the mission of public radio. We have Fox news and nationally-owned stations that are already homogenizing our television and radio airwaves. We need KUT for its diversity, authenticity, and unique programs.

Furthermore part of KUT's mission should be permanently tied to cultural preservation. In Texas, part of our culture is blues music. Paul Ray gives listeners a first-rate education in blues music and in Texas blues. He possesses a genuine enthusiasm that defies age. The depth of knowledge and selection of songs heard on Twine Time is far better than any nationally marketed blues shows I've ever heard.

I suggest that you rethink this plan, not only to avoid losing your long-time listeners, but to avoid failure with newer listeners. Rather than cut Ray's shows back, you should be taking action to promote his shows and make them more visible to the public.

Please don't become the Walmart of public radio.

Sincerely,

Ricky Rees

Hey Cleve, i strongly support your views on this matter! Larry Monroe changed my life for ever! I was 15 years old when i fell in love with music. I decided i was going to learn how to play guitar like the guys i heard here in austin. Instead of hanging with my friends in high school , i would stay at home and listen to kut programing. I loved larry Monroe! I would sit and listen to him all night and record every Blue monday so i could learn to play what i was hearing.
I have been a guitar player ever since. I am honored that i have played with some of the best musician around. South austin Jug band, Toni price, the late Gary primich, Warren Hood, etc..
I have a gig tonight til 9pm so i hope to make it out. For what its worth , you are welcome to share this letter with anyone or everyone.
Keep up the good fight Willie Pipkin

For more information, please contact Antonio Diaz at texasindigenouscouncil@yahoo.com or please visit his website at www.indigenousway.blogspot.com June 20, 2009, was a great demonstration at the T.
