Our hearts and hopes are with you, especially those of you who lost friends or loved ones in Tuesday's tragedies.
A new chapter in America's history opened on Tuesday. Although only the first few sentences have been written, they include words like fear, shock, hatred, and compassion. Unfortunately, those words are inadequate to express what we are all feeling.
For the first time in nearly 3 generations, America has felt the terror of a large-scale attack on its own soil. For the first time, Americans born after WWII have a taste for the fear that families live through every day in war-torn areas like Colombia, Yugoslavia, the Congo, Palestine, and Israel.
We ask all of you to join us as we work for justice without revenge. All of those responsible must be brought to full justice and pay for their crimes. The values of liberty and justice, that we as Americans cherish, depend on us bringing an end to terrorism, but also protecting the innocent. We must proceed with care, to make sure that we never have to go through this again. However, if America carelessly sheds the blood of innocents, we will perpetuate the cycle of violence and in the end be no better than the terrorists who took thousands of innocent lives on September 11th.
